Our team comprises of eight teachers of which both our School Deputy Head for curriculum, Mrs. Farida Zarquani and Ms Sherley Marie, curriculum coordinator for S1/S2 and School Improvement (SIP) facilitator form part. They are both teaching S5 classes.

The other members who have been with us since January are: Mr Kairen Madeleine, teacher of S5, S4 and S2, Herman Valentin S4, S3 and S1, Mrs. Johanna Anderson S3 and S1. Mrs. Anuradha Solanki, teacher of S3 and S1 has recently joined the department, so has Ms Sandra Andre a new university graduate teaching S3, S2 and S1.The H.O.D teaches S4 and S3. The teachers are teaching different sets at these levels.

One main characteristic thtat the English Department possesses is a strong team spirit and a great sense of humor, which helps to see us through, even when the going gets tough.

Concerns

Our main concern in the department is sometimes the lack of teachers which sometimes causes students to lack of motivation and seriousness. An unwillingness to learn is also often apparent in the students behaviour..

Eventhough lack of time has been a constraint we have managed to analyze exam results and write report of our students' performance for the different classes at the end of the term.

During SIP sessions we have finally audited our department, prepare and distribute questionnaires to teachers, librarian and students.  This will enable us to find out our weaknesses in order to establishe our priorities and to set an action plan for the coming years.

HOD'S views

We hope to see a better and well-equipped Beau-Vallon school where students are eager to learn. The main targets are to:

Create incentive for teachers.

Eradicate discipline problems.

Encourage students to develop the love for reading and to use the language as much as possible without the fear at being laughed at.

Enhance teaching so as to make learning pleasurable.

Motivate both teachers and students to set priorities in order to achieve their objectives.

Ensure that all students are able to read.
