The Beau Vallon Secondary School IT Club was founded by Mr. Daniel Adrienne (B Ed) who is in charge of the computing facilities which the school received in March 1999.  The aim of the club is to familiarise students with a personal computer as well as develop basic computer skills.

Developing students' awareness and appreciation of the role of computer in our modern world is also one of the aims.

The original members of the group were students who were of low computer literacy level, within the age range of fourteen to seventeen.

Presently the Club consists of ten students and two teachers. The former are Milena Adrienne, Denise Dorby, Sharon Guichard, Myra Julie, Anifa Lucas, Lina Marcel, Joanna Marie and Marie Michelle Pragassen. The latter are Johanna Anderson (B Ed) and Daniel Adrienne.

The predominant activity at the moment is the construction of the BVS Millenium Web Site. The BVS Millenium Web Site consists mostly of all developments that occur in the school ,and information has been gathered through research forms and interviews.

By now students are able to create their own address book, use the word processor  to create their own document and also save them. Furthermore, computer has become the most commonly used resources for the IT club members.  The most popular software are  Typing Tutor, which the IT club members have taken great interest in and The 1998 World Book encyclopedia.  The latter contains information that has close relationship with what is being covered in subject areas, such as History, Geography and Science.

With our attention directed to the internet, as we are charged with the authoring of the school web site,  club members also engage in learning to browse the internet and creating simple web pages using word processing skills.

Knowledge of HTML will be brought in gradually as the student have started at very low computing skill level.

So far, members of the IT Club have been able to develop skills such as connect up a computer system, make use of the computer as an information resource.

In addition, we have been able to conduct researches to construct the millenium website.

Towards the creation of the website, we have maitained originality in all designs, content and graphics.  All logos,  images,  cartoons etc. were produced here at Beau Vallon secondary school.

Joanna Marie (IT club member)

I wish to obtain an advanced course in computing so as to enable me to use the computer for other purposes such as communications. Making effective and efficient use of the Internet is also one of my wishes. I'd like a career whereby I could develop my computing skills. My  interest in computing was triggered by my participation in the creation of our school's  web site. I would like to see more students join the IT club next year.

Daniel S. Adrienne (IT Club leader)

My major concern is the that miss out on the real potential of computers in society because the exposure with  entertainment prevails that of educational values.   I'd wish to see students more involved in IT as an educational tool and at the same time have fun doing it!
