THE
SEYCHELLES
The
Seychelles Archipelago is a collection of 115 islands situated four degrees
south of the equator, approximately 1500 kilometers off the east coast of
Africa.
The
granite islands are the peaks of the large but submerged continent of
Gondwanaland, which once joined Africa to Asia.
There
are two types of island in the Archipelago – granitic and coralline. Coral
islands are called coralline islands. The most scenic are the granitic islands
with their lush green tropical vegetation, which contrast with the white beaches
and crystal clear turquoise seas.
These
islands are amongst the most beautiful in the world.
COUSINE
ISLAND
Cousine
Island, with an area of only 25 hectares, is one of the smaller of the granitic
islands, and is situated approximately six kilometers off the west coast of
Praslin, Seychelles second largest island.
The
Island is a private nature reserve, home to five of the Seychelles endemic birds
as well as a variety of other endemic flora and fauna, and has the status of
being the only island in the archipelago free of alien mammals.
Cousine
Island offers an exclusive island experience with complete privacy found in very
few other places on earth.
A
maximum of ten guests are accommodated at any one time and share the island with
its natural inhabitants, offering some of the greatest nature watching available
in Seychelles.
As the
Island’s creatures have no natural predators on the Island, they have no fear
of humans and often one gets the feeling of not knowing quite who is watching
whom!
