SUBIOS
has moved back to the month of October and is organised by the Seychelles Tourism Board. The programme for visiting divers will be concentrated around the Dive Centres and the hotels where they are based with the final evening taking place on Mahe. This annual festival celebrates the wonder and diversity of the underwater world with a host of diving and snorkeling activities and helps to create awareness with evening film, video and slide presentations by acclaimed local and international guest speakers.SUBIOS 2008 will continue to host underwater film and photography contests in four categories:
Best Image
Best Video
Best Image of Seychelles
Best Unedited Video of Seychelles by a local
The top prizes for foreign entries are return tickets to the islands plus 5 days of free accommodation.
The festival was initiated in 1989 by two local Dive Professionals, David Rowat, Managing Director of the Underwater Centre, and Phillipe Blanchard with the support of Mrs. Maryse Eichler, then the Manageress of the Beau Vallon Bay Hotel. This initial festival was organised jointly with other members of the Association of Professional Divers Seychelles in association with Daniel Mercier and Pierre Coton of the Festival of Antibes.
