The local bus company does have competition in the
form of private vehicles but it hopes to lure many commuters away from
cars when it receives new luxury buses soon.
Five such buses, which will feature air
conditioning, will arrive in January after a series of other types which
Seychelles Public Transport Corporation (SPTC) will bring in starting
this month. The luxury buses will be similar in appearance to the
Ashok-Leylands already serving in the corporation's fleet, but will
sport different colours that are yet to be determined.
SPTC also expects five 55-seaters with fully
automatic transmission, according to the organisation's managing
director, Mr Daniel Gappy.
"We want the premier service to provide for that
executive who wants to arrive, for example at an important meeting,
without having to sweat on the way," he said Monday October 13, adding
that SPTC has not yet determined what routes the vehicles will pry or
how much they will charge.
This month SPTC expects 18 new buses including
three prototype 26-seaters for secondary routes. The other 15 will be 40
seaters with room for 10 standing passengers each.
In December, the
corporation will add 20 49-passenger longer vehicles with a further
55-capacity vehicles arriving in January.
