Many of us know
and remember teachers from our early-day positions as pupils or
students, when we believed them to be the all-capable, nearly invincible
beings.
At that time we
never thought of the challenges they went through or that they could
need a helping hand from outside their noble profession. Many of us
never really revised that view even as we grew up and became parents of
schoolchildren, and we could have erroneously continued to bear the
former image.
Teachers are
celebrating their Day, which falls tomorrow, under a theme that solicits
our support and pledges quality education in return.
Parents are
obviously the main people behind goodwill gestures bestowed on teachers
on special days by schoolchildren, many of whom honour their teachers
with flowers, cards and gifts.
Teachers have now
come out in the open and admitted they value our contributions to
education, as they have outlined in the article published in the centre
pages today. Therefore, in addition to the occasional symbolic gestures
of appreciation we offer them, let all of us also extend our hands in
supporting their hard and challenging work because after all, we are the
true beneficiaries of their tireless efforts in educating our children. |
