Kenya Airways halt rupee sales
Kenya Airways is no longer accepting Seychelles
Rupees for tickets to Nairobi, having changed ticketing allocations to
foreign exchange sales only.
The move was made on May 24, when the airline
began insisting that tickets bought in Seychelles be paid for with
either credit cards on foreign currency account, travellers cheques or
foreign currency accompanied by a necessary bank receipt.
The policy, implemented on an open ended basis,
has been put in place due to difficulties faced by the airline in
repatriating locally earned currency.
In a minor concession to Seychellois travellers
Kenya Airways is accepting 25 percent of payment for flights beyond
Nairobi in rupees, with the other three quarters payable in hard
currency.
Principal Secretary of the Ministry of Economic
Planning and Foreign Exchange Controller Ahmed Afif was unavailable
for comment on the situation. |
