Two of Seychelles premier hotels, North Island and
Banyan Tree, have picked up prestigious awards at the London World
Travel Market meeting.
Banyan Tree Seychelles won the "2003 Commitment to
Quality Award" for Africa, presented by the Leading Hotels of the World.
The award was one of 12 given by the Leading Hotels
organisation, with the Banyan Tree Resort claiming the award for the
African region.
The other 11 awards were distributed between luxury
international hotels, two from each of the six geographical regions
surveyed by the organisation.
The award winners were chosen on the basis of
anonymous inspections carried out by Leading Hotel's staff over the
course of the last 12 months.
Minister for Tourism and Transport, Ms Simone de
Comarmond, accepted the award on behalf of the Banyan Tree Resort.
The second Seychelles hotel to take home an award
from the London meeting was the newly opened North Island resort.
Acting manager of the eco-sensitive North Island
hotel, Mr Michael Poliza, was on hand at the tourism awards of British
Newspaper, the Sunday Times to collect the hotel's trophy.
North Island scooped the Sunday Times Travel
Magazine Editor's Award for "World's Best Resort–Outstanding Style."
