The National
Assembly Wednesday December 10 approved three more bills, following the
endorsement on Tuesday December 9 of the Tourism Incentives Bill.
The bills approved
Wednesday include the Supplementary Appropriation Bill 2003, the Data
Protection Bill 2003 and the International Corporate Service Providers
Bill 2003. The first two bills were presented by Vice-President James
Michel in his capacity as the Minister for Finance and Minister for
Information, Technology and Communication whereas the third one was
presented by the Minister for Industries and International Business,
Jacquelin Dugasse.
The Supplementary
Appropriation Bill 2003, which sought approval for an extra spending of
R192,192, 676 for the year 2002, received the green light from members
of the majority party. Members of the Opposition chose to abstain on the
grounds that the additional sum, according to them, was mainly as a
result of unnecessary spending that could have been avoided.
The additional sum,
VP Michel said, was made available to cater for various extra expenses
such as the creation the Minor Disaster Fund, the setting up of a dog
unit at SPDF (Seychelles People's Defence Forces) and reparation and
maintenance of telecommunication systems, Festival Kreol, to cater for
National Art Council programmes, high level sports and sports
development in the districts, the preparation of Indian Ocean Games, the
installation of the Marine and Technology Research Centre, the opening
of Youth bureaus in the districts, increase in salaries, gratuities,
housing construction and maintenance and for the legislative election.
The two other bills
were approved unanimously.
