Students who have not been admitted to any
post-secondary institutions this year but want to try a second time are
being urged to think well over their course choices before lodging an
appeal.
Mrs Sheila Pool, the assistant director for
career's guidance in the education division, is urging students not to
let their chances go to waste by choosing the wrong courses again.
She said that two groups of students can appeal,
mainly those who had not been admitted on any course at all as well as
those who were not satisfied with the course they had been accepted on.
These students have one week to appeal, starting on
Monday January 13, after which their cases will go before the board of
appeal. Results of the appeal will only be known by mid February.
Students will have different days to report to the
career guidance section at the Ministry of Education at Mont Fleuri and
they are being urged to observe the schedule.
"We have reviewed the way we carry out the
appeal procedures in a bid to make it more orderly and avoid long queues
of students standing for hours at our office's door," she said.
Mrs Pool reminded students that "it doesn't
matter when you appeal, whether it's Monday or Friday, because it's not
going to affect anybody's chance when the board get down to work."
From Monday Janaury 13 to Friday January 17,
students can report to the section to collect their appeal forms.
Counselling will also be offered to those who are not sure about their
course choices or simply want some guidance.
On Monday Janaury 13, the section will be receiving
students from the Anse Boileau School from 8.30 a.m. to 12 noon. In the
afternoon, that is from 1.15 to 4 p.m., Beau Vallon students will be
seen.
Pointe Larue and Belonie students are on the
programme for Tuesday January 14, for the morning and afternoon
sessions, respectively. Mont Fleuri and Anse Royale students should
report to the section on Wednesday January 15.
On Thursday January 16, officials of the section
will be seeing students from Plaisance, English River and Independent
schools only in the morning, that is from 8.15 a.m. to 12 noon.
Officials will also go on Praslin and La Digue on
the same day and will be stationed at the La Digue School from 10 to
11.30 a.m. and at the Baie Ste Anne School from 1.30 to 3.30 p.m.
Where the schedule cannot be respected for various
reasons, parents and students will be seen at the ministry on Thursday
January 16 from 1.30 to 4 p.m. and Friday January 17 from 8.30 a.m. to 4
p.m.
No
appeal will be considered after this Friday January 17.
