The ninth session
of the Seychelles-Cuba Joint Commission opens on Tuesday October 14, in
the Cuban capital, Havana, a communiqué from the Ministry of Foreign
Affairs announced on Monday October 13.
The Minister for
Health, Mr Patrick Pillay, is leading the Seychelles delegation to this
Joint Commission, which takes place every two years alternately in each
country’s capital.
The Joint
Commission was initiated twenty-three years ago following the signature
of the Agreement on Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation
between Seychelles and Cuba.
It has provided the
framework for the provision of long term Cuban technical assistance to
Seychelles, as well as for bilateral cooperation in a number of other
areas.
Presently, there
are 39 Cuban experts working in Seychelles and 17 Seychellois students
in Cuba pursuing studies in the fields of medicine, civil engineering,
physical education and biology.
During his stay in
Cuba, Minister Pillay is also due to hold talks with high-level Cuban
government officials on a wide range of issues of mutual interest. |
