The general manager of Central Bank, Dr Peter
Larose, has been invited to chair a session on globalisation and small
states during Global Development Network's (GDN) annual conference being
held in Cairo, Egypt.
The conference opened on Tuesday January 14 and is
expected to go until January 21.
"This is a great privilege for Seychelles, and
it shows we are recognised for the intellectual contribution we can
make, regardless of the size of our country," he told Nation
just before his departure for Cairo, noting that his selection was not
done by the casting of lots.
"Seychelles' participation was not determined
through a lucky dip, neither is chairmanship being passed on, on a
rotation basis," he remarked.
Saying he would be moderating four papers to be
presented at the Tuesday January 21 session to be held under the theme: Globalisation and equity, Dr Larose observed:
"It is good to see that Seychelles, and not
just industrialised countries, is recognised as a partner who can
contribute in seeking solutions to global issues.
He said that the profile of participants at the
conference would include heads of state and government and other key
persons including top World Bank officials.
A
number of activities will precede the main conference, including
workshops entitled: Understanding
reform, Bridging research and policy, Education for development and Development of effectiveness of rich countries' policies.
