National Assembly
reconvenes
Speaker reminds MNAs
of pledge for greater tolerance
National Assembly
Speaker Francis MacGregor on Tuesday May 18, reminded members of the
pledge they made earlier this year for greater tolerance so as to
bring about a more pleasant atmosphere during debates.
Welcoming back the
MNAs for the first sitting of the second term for the year after a
three-week recess, Mr MacGregor reminded them of the statements made
by the Leader of Government Business, Mr Patrick Herminie, and the
Leader of the Opposition, Mr Wavel Ramkalawan, at the end of the last
sitting of the first term.
The two leaders
had called for greater tolerance, unity and understanding between the
two main political parties in the Assembly.
Speaker MacGregor
said that by reminding them of what they had said he hoped to
encourage a more pleasant atmosphere during Assembly debates.
Yesterday sitting
was also the first under the new administration of President James
Michel who was sworn in on April 14.
On the order paper for yesterday’s sitting
were a Bill to set up the Small Enterprise Promotion Agency and the
liquidation of the Seychelles Industrial Development Corporation (Sidec)
and two motions calling for the ratification of the protocols against
smuggling of migrants and trafficking in persons especially women and
children.
The Bill,
presented by the Minister for Industries and International Business
Jacquelin Dugasse, as well as the two motions tabled by Hon. Herminie
were approved by the members. |
