Competency-Based Approach in training (CBA) has
received the recommendation of the 5th Annual Education Conference
delegates and a nod of approval from the Ministry of Education and Youth
(MEY).
About 200 educationists and experts in training
discussed and highlighted advantages of the CBA. They did so in the
presence of Minister Danny Faure of MEY, after which Principal Secretary
Macsuzie Mondon (PS) voiced the ministry's approval in principle for the
strategy.
In her speech to close the conference on Thursday
September 18, she noted that two programmes were already following CBA,
saying standardisation and integration of post secondary education and
training were more of an already accepted principle than they were mere
proposals for consideration.
"Those of us already involved in the project
recognise the benefits of such a model for education and training in
Seychelles," she said, adding that consensus for the adoption of CBA
needed to reach instructors and lecturers who would be the key persons
in developing and implementing CBA programmes.
The PS noted that the training of tour guides and
environmental health officers was already based on the CBA approach.
Courses for the two categories of professionals are run by Seychelles
Hospitality and Tourism Training College (SHTTC) and the National
Institute for Health and Social Studies (NIHSS) respectively.
"In designing the two programmes, we had to work
closely with parent ministries and people from organisations and the
labour market," she said. |
