President France Albert René has sent a message of condolences to H.E. Mrs Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, President of the Republic of the Philippines, following the series of landslides that hit these south-east Asian islands during the weekend.

President Rene's message reads:

"It is with great sadness that we have learnt of the series of landslides that hit the central and southern Philippines, resulting in the loss of over 200 lives.

"In this moment of grief and national mourning, the government and people of Seychelles join me in expressing our heartfelt sympathies and deepest condolences to you, the government and people of the Republic of the Philippines and to the families of the victims. We wish the relief agencies every success in remedying this tragic situation."
