Vice-President
James Michel returned to Seychelles Friday September 26
after attending the joint IMF/World Bank meetings in Dubai.
Commenting on the
meetings, VP Michel said: "Many countries may not necessarily share the
same views as the IMF and the World Bank on a number of topics, but
there is a growing consensus on solutions which are required especially
with regard to such issues as sustainable development, poverty reduction
and debt relief."
During the IMF/World
Bank Annual Meeting, the Vice-President and the Seychelles delegation,
which included the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr Jérémie Bonnelame,
held discussions on a wide range of issues, with particular emphasis on
the on-going macro-economic reform programme with Mr Sugisaki, deputy
managing director of the IMF and also with senior officials of the World
Bank.
The Seychelles
delegation also held talks with various bilateral and multilateral
organizations which include among others the Arab Bank for Economic
Development in Africa, the OPEC Fund and the Kuwait Fund.
