More than 40 senior citizens residing at the St.
Elizabeth Convent were treated to a hotel-style luncheon on Saturday
December 27, put on by the Berjaya Beau Vallon Bay Hotel.
The lunch was catered and served by Beau Vallon
Bay’s management staff and included a somewhat belated, if no less
appreciated, appearance by Santa Claus for the convent’s orphans, who
were to arrive later in the day.
Beau Vallon Bay general manager B.B. Khoo said that
the luncheon is part of a yearly commitment by the Berjaya group of
hotels in Seychelles to show appreciation and care for the elderly, as
well as the community as a whole.
Mr Khoo said Berjaya’s community service extended
from its home offices in Malaysia, where the company has a history of
supporting charitable causes.
The Beau Vallon Bay Hotel is also spearheading some
renovation work at Mother Teresa’s Home, Mr Khoo mentioned, which
includes repairing a leaking roof, renovating the playground and
replacing tiles.
St. Elizabeth patron Sister Agnes said that the
elderly were especially appreciative of the lunch, considering that some
of them reside in different areas of the convent and do not always have
the chance to see each other.
“It’s nice for them to come together, with good
food, and talk,” she said. |
