The trades tax and
regulations containing the new reduced rates have been published as a
supplement to this week's Official Gazette.
The 696-page
publication with yellow cover entitled "Trades Tax (Amendment)
Regulations, 2003," contains the new trades and import tariffs to be
implemented over the next three years on 3,500 items.
The reduction will
be applied on a gradual basis, starting from the period of September
2003 until the end of next year, and of 2005 and 2006. As it can be
recalled trades tax reduction has already taken effect on 200 items out
of which 35 now have a 0% tax.
The publication of
the document is part of the new measures of the Macro-Economic Reform
Programme (Merp) and it will serve as a guide to enable consumers to
better postpone their spending so they can benefit from the reductions.
Trades tax reduction
is also in line with the country's commitment to international
organisations such as COMESA (Common Market for Eastern and Southern
Africa) and the (WTO) World Trade Organisation.
The document can be
purchased at Printec Press Holding at Mont Fleuri.
