Young honourables of the Seychelles National Youth
Assembly (SNYA) met for the second time on Friday August 8 and had their
first motion approved.
The motion, tabled by honourable Nicole Asba,
called for more open discussions on the development of education in
Seychelles and what can be done for it to develop more efficiently.
Most of the young honourables who added to the
discussion talked about the setbacks in the present educational system
and stated potential measures that could be implemented to upgrade the
level of education in Seychelles.
Addressing many of the difficulties, the young
honourables said that due to a lack of qualified teachers in
post-secondary institutions, students have to study on their own and
find it hard to cope with exam pressure.
A lack of resources is another problem that is
affecting the learning process at all levels, according to the
honourables.
Before listening to the motions, Speaker Clifford
Andre went over the procedures for the session and asked all honourables
to respect the regulations and rules.
The SNYA, which was officially launched on July 31
by Francis MacGregor, Speaker of the National Assembly, is to convene
once every two months at the ex-Assembly Hall at National House.
The final report of each session will be presented
to Speaker MacGregor. |
