A new programme aimed at helping schoolchildren to
keep away from drugs has been initiated by the youth department in the
Ministry of Education and Youth and the Youth Health Centre.
Dubbed '"Kick drugs away from school," the
programme, which has already been introduced to some 40 students at the
Mont Fleuri Primary School, is a pilot project to help change the lives
of young people through health education, fitness, discipline and
motivational talk.
In many instances young people turn to drugs and
other substances in times of despair but through this programme they
will get the chance to improve and strengthen their ability to overcome
their problems and build up their confidence to make the right
decisions.
Through this ongoing programme, which will come to
an end in November, young people will be taught how to become
goal-oriented and in the end feel that they are self-worth.
Even if a lot of emphasis has been placed on the
ills of the society, there is still the need to educate the young people
on these issues.
This programme will also help young people to
become more responsible and think more positively.
Once the participants have joined the programme
they will always have something positive to hope for and thus they will
become more aware and understand better how to develop their potential
to the maximum.
The programme is being co-coordinated by Mr Vincent
Volcere, youth development programme officer and Dereck Samson from
youth health education. It runs every Tuesday from 2.15 p.m. to 3.30
p.m. and Friday from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Roche Caiman Dojo. |
