The Supreme Court presided over by Justice N. Judoo
Friday October 24 ruled that former lawyer Franky Simeon, who is charged
with two counts of manslaughter, has a case to answer.
The case in which the prosecution, led by Attorney
General Anthony Fernando, has already closed, will continue on Monday
October 27.
Mr Fernando is being assisted by State Counsels
Donald Bacco and Joel Camille, while Mr Simeon is being represented by
Mrs Annette George and Mr Conrad Lablache.
Simeon, who was present in court yesterday, has
been charged with the death in October 2000 of his 51-year-old mother
Greta Simeon, and girlfriend Pamela Pouponeau, both of whom were stabbed
to death.
Following his trial by jury, Mr Simeon was
acquitted on two counts of murder, but convicted of manslaughter on both
counts and sentenced to 15 years imprisonment.
A Court of Appeal sitting on April 19, 2002,
however, quashed the sentence against Simeon and set aside the
convictions against him, ordering a retrial.
