Museum club members
who have contributed to the promotion of historical education were
awarded recently by the National Museum of History.
Principal Secretary
for Sports and Culture, Patrick Nanty; museum director Allen Lucas,
other officials and parents were on hand for the ceremony, held at the
National Museum of History building on State House Avenue.
According to senior
museum curator Marie-May Tirant, the ceremony, sponsored by the
Children's Fund, is an annual event organised to reward museum club
members for their achievements in various educational activities during
the year.
Both of the
country's two museums -- the National Museum of History and the Museum
of Natural History -- held essay and poem writing competitions in
different categories, with the winners recognised at the ceremony.
Members also
received prizes for excellent attendance in the clubs' activities, with
six active club members rewarded for their participation in the
different events.
An exhibition was
on show at the National Museum of history with creative art works,
writings and poems by club members.
During the year the
museum club also organised activities like island excursions, sponsored
walks and exploring nature trails.
The ceremony was
the last activity that the National Museum of History holds in the
building, as it is expected to move to another location next year.
