Residents in St
Louis will now be able to convene in a local venue of their own, as the
newly built community centre in the district was officially opened on
Friday August 22.
In a small ceremony,
the Minister for Local Government, Sports and Culture, Sylvette Pool,
invited guests and members of the community witnessed the official
opening of the St Louis Community Centre.
The ministry's
investment in the centre, approximately R3 million, aims to provide
designated groups in the district with a safe, spacious and comfortable
location for their activities.
St Louis District
Administrator Beven Vidot, who thanked Minister Pool for the centre on
behalf of the district, said that it will surely help in bringing
members of the St Louis community closer.
The district's
various programmes, such as Neighbourhood Recreational Activities (NRA)
and the Emergency Brigade, can now organise their activities and
meetings without having to worry about finding a location, rental cost
or even travel cost due to the nearby centre.
The two-story
building can accommodate shows, meetings and games. It is also open to
other members of the St Louis district in need of a location for special
events, such as weddings.
During the ceremony,
Minister Pool had the honour of receiving the key that officially opened
its doors to the St Louis population.
Also present at the
ceremony was Pastor Stravens from the Adventist Church, who blessed the
new building. |
