The Minister for Education and Youth, Mr Danny
Faure, is in Edinburgh, Scotland where he is attending the 15th Conference
of Commonwealth Ministers of Education.
Minister Faure is accompanied by education
principal secretary Macsuzy Mondon.
During the October 27 - 30 conference, the
ministers of education from commonwealth countries will be giving
consideration to the creation of a Virtual University for Small States
as a follow up to the consultative meeting for Small States Ministers of
Education that was held in Seychelles from March 11 - 14 this year.
Minister Faure and Mrs Mondon will also be taking
part in a Parallel Symposium, in which Seychelles has been selected to
make a presentation on the success story of the School Improvement
Programme in Seychelles.
Other issues for discussion at the Conference will
include Universal Primary Education, Eliminating Gender Disparity in
Education, Improving the quality of Education, Using Distance Learning
to Overcome Barriers, Supporting Education in Difficult Circumstances
and Mitigating HIV/AIDS on Education Systems.
Also in Edinburgh in the context of the 15th Conference
of Commonwealth Ministers of Education are two young Seychellois who are
attending the Youth Summit.
The two youths, Debra Camille and Alex Larue, are
the ones who presented President France Albert Rene with the Aspiration
2013 document during the National Day celebrations on June 18.
The two Seychellois youths will explain the process
of Aspiration 2013 to other youths at the Summit and also discuss the
impact of education systems on the youth and other challenges.
The report of the Youth Summit will later be
submitted to the Commonwealth Ministers of Education at the 15th Conference.
