Television
journalist Marceline Evenor took home a special surprise award on
Wednesday November 5, at the first-ever Awards for Excellence in
Journalism, organised by the local public relations association.
Ms Evenor was
announced as the winner of the Camerapix Mohamed Amin Award at an award
ceremony at the Berjaya Beau Vallon Bay Hotel, put on by the Public
Relations Society of Seychelles (PRSOS).
The Camerapix award
is in honour of the late Amin, who was one of the world’s most famous
and acclaimed journalists for his depictions of African life.
The surprise award
was only announced at the ceremony on Wednesday by public relations
officer for Air Seychelles, Glenn Pillay. The six other awards
presented at the ceremony were announced by the PRSOS last month.
Mr Pillay described
Ms Evenor as Seychelles’ own version of Christine Amanpour for her
in-depth style and approach, and her commitment to relaying precise
information.
The Seychelles
Broadcasting Corporation’s managing director, Ibrahim Afif, accepted the
award on behalf of Ms Evenor, who could not attend, from the
communications advisor to President France Albert Rene, Gilbert Pool.
Representatives from
some of the event’s sponsors, including the Seychelles Tourism Marketing
Authority (STMA), represented by Francis Savy, the Development Bank of
Seychelles and the State Assurance Company of Seychelles, also presented
awards to the six other winners for journalistic excellence.
Robert Andre,
principal editor of the Seychelles Nation, Andy Henriette of SBC
Radio and Kevin Malbrook of SBC Television all won awards for excellence
in journalism.
“It means a lot to
know that your work has been appreciated outside of your field,” said Mr
Henriette. “Journalism in Seychelles is not easy.”
Meanwhile, Patrick
Joubert (Nation), Jules Hoareau (SBC Radio) and Jerome Dogley
(SBC Television) took home awards for outstanding contribution in the
field of media. |
