An extra R10,000 is being used to combat the spread
of HIV/Aids in Seychelles today, following a donation by Seychelles
Breweries Limited (SBL) and reggae group Culture.
The donation took place last week at Seybrew's
O'Brien House, where charismatic Culture front man, Joseph Hill,
spoke briefly about the struggle against Aids.
"What happens here," said Hill "can happen here,
there or anywhere," adding that this is why, in combating Aids, "when we
fight, we must fight with all our might, because we are fighting for
what is right."
SBL's managing director Mr Andrew Richardson said
that the donation was a happy occasion for the brewery as it had a long
tradition of supporting the fight against Aids in Seychelles.
According to Mr Richardson one of the principal
uses of the donation, drawn from the sale of tickets for Culture's
two Seychelles concerts, will be to produce Aids awareness posters.
Accepting the donation on behalf of the Ministry of
Health, Nurse in Charge of the Communicable Disease Unit, Ms Georgette
Furneau, sought to assure SBL that the money would be put to good use in
combating the spread of the disease and thanked the company for the
contribution.
Following the donation Mr Hill was asked for his
views on Wednesday night's (December 3) successful Culture
concert at the ICCS, replying, "I was there with open eyes and I did
what I was supposed to do and I saw that Seychellois were very busy
dancing."
Culture performed their second and final
concert to a packed Stad Lanmizik on Saturday December 6.
