A girl in her early 20s, Juliet Jean-Baptiste, died
on Sunday December 14, at the Victoria Hospital after she was involved
in an accident between a mini-moke, in which she was a passenger, and a
TATA bus.
The accident occured in the early hours of Sunday
at Anse Aux Pins when the mini-moke, which was travelling south, was
trying to overtake the bus. In doing so, it hit againts the bus, lost
control and crashed into a wall.
Besides Juliet and the driver, the mini-moke was
carrying three other passengers.
Following the accident Juliet, who sustained head
injuries, was transported to the Victoria Hospital where she was
admitted into the Intensive Care Unit. She died some three hours later.
The other persons in the moke have been all
admitted to hospital with broken legs, dislocated shoulders and pain in
the waist, among other injuries.
Resident foreign
businessman drowns
A foreign businessman residing in Seychelles
drowned on Saturday December 13, while swimming near his residence at
Machabee.
According to eye witnesses Nashir Lootah, a
58-year-old Arab businessman, was dragged offshore by strong waves as
the sea was rough.
With the help of three men Mr Lootah was brought
back to shore where he was given artificial respiration.
He was then transported to Victoria Hospital where
he was certified dead by the doctor who examined him.
Mr Lootah, a prominent figure in Seychelles tourist
industry, was the owner of Falcon Villas at Machabee.
Man found dead in his
house
A resident of Mare Anglaise, 44-year-old Gilbert
Havelock, was found dead in his house on Saturday December 13.
According to another man who was living in the same
house as Mr Havelock, it was on coming from work that same morning that
he discovered Mr Havelock lying still in his bed.
Apparently Mr Havelock was on medical treatment for
sometime but had stopped as he was feeling well. |
