New ILO director for region visits

The new director of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) for the Indian Ocean region is in Seychelles on her first visit.

Mrs Dayina Mayenga, who arrived in the country Monday September 15, was appointed to the post on December 1, 2002.

During her six-day stay, Mrs Mayenga will present her Letters of Appointment to Mr Jérémie Bonnelame, Minister for Foreign Affairs.

She will also call on Mr Dolor Ernesta, Minister of Social Affairs and Employment. Meetings have also been scheduled with other senior Government officials and with social partners.

Seychelles became a member of ILO in 1977 and from 1977 to date, the country has benefited and is continuing to benefit from ILO through provision of consultancy and funding of seminars/workshops relating to the field of employment.

Mrs Mayenga, who is based in Madagascar, replaces Mrs Catherine Hein, who took up a new post at the ILO Headquarters in Geneva.
