An official day for cancer and a series of
educational and fund-raising activities were some of the future plans
outlined at the Cancer Concern Association (CCA) annual general meeting
on Saturday November 15.
At the meeting, held at the at Victoria Hospital,
CCA members proposed the creation of a Cancer Day on which prayers would
be said for those affected by the condition.
They also said they would step up their drive to
raise funds to purchase diagnostic equipment for Victoria Hospital.
The meeting also saw the election of a new
executive committee.
After being voted back into office as CCA’s
chairperson, Bishop French Chang-Him said the organisation wished to
host a seminar for all its members so that they could be trained on the
best ways to counsel cancer patients.
He said the CCA had published a newsletter and also
sent an unnamed patient to Reunion for treatment.
The other committee members voted into office on
Saturday were Giulliane Mein, who was elected secretary, Bernadette
Furneau, who became treasurer, and ordinary members Jules Hoareau,
Georgette Aziz, who has publicly announced she has cancer, Sister
Emilien, K. D. Pillay, Molley Green, Linda Bonnelame and Rose-Anna
Samson.
Health Minister Patrick Pillay and principal
secretary Marja MacGaw were among those who attended the meeting. |
