The Independent School has donated R50,000 to the
Ste Elizabeth's convent.
Independent School director Zotique Pragasen, in
the presence of students, teachers and parents, presented a cheque to
Ste Elizabeth representatives Sister Samuel and Irene Joseph during a
recent school assembly.
The money for the donation came from two major fund
raising activities.
In one venture, various businesses would sponsor
Independent School students for doing voluntary work at Ste Elizabeth's
convent and the Foyer De Nazareth, raising more than R30,000.
In another fund-raising effort, held at the
children's playground last year, the Independent School banded together
with two other secondary schools – Belonie and Plaisance – to put up
even more money, totalling R50,000 when added to the existing sum.
On behalf of the Sisters of Ste Elizabeth, Mr
Joseph thanked the students and their teachers for the noble gesture.
"This money is expected to go towards the
renovation of the Foyer de Nazareth convent, as well as cover some small
expenditures of the Ste Elizabeth convent," said Mr Joseph.
He also welcomed
any future contributions that could be of great help to the convents.
