A total of eight security guards from the Ministry
of Education and Youth have successfully completed a week-long course on
the maintenance of safety and security.
They received their certificates recently at the
National Youth Hostel which is one of the institutions within which they
help maintain security.
The training was conducted by four officials from
the Seychelles Police. A similar course is expected to be run next year.
The youth hostel's management had requested the
training as a means of further assisting and equipping the guards for
their job of maintaining the safety of the students resident at the
hostel.
"This should also further ease the minds of parents
and give them greater confidence in the hostel as a whole," their
trainers said during the ceremony.
According to one of the guards who participated in
the training, Mr Lester Finon, the course has been a moral boost in
their careers.
"In addition, it has made us more open-minded in
our line of work and I am confident that we are now better able to
handle any situation that may arise at the hostel or within the
ministry's headquarters where we work," he said.
One resident of the hostel remarked that with such
training, they feel more at ease knowing that they live in a safe
environment.
It was Research Officer Raymond Louise and
Sub-inspector Ted Barbe of the Seychelles Police Academy who presented
the security guards with their certificates at the Anse Royale function.
