The Ste Elizabeth's
convent was buzzing with activity on Christmas Day as residents of the
Foyer de Providence of the said convent and those of the Foyer de
Nazareth enjoyed a Christmas lunch.
Sponsored by Mahe
Industrial Company, the lunch started at 12 noon and 45 children enjoyed
the succulent dishes prepared by workers of the convent inside the
convent's
kitchen.
Mahe Industrial
Company's managing director, K. Ramakrishnan better known as Ramu, said
they had wanted to make such a charitable gesture for some time now but
were not ready.
"What we have
started now will not end here. We will continue with such charitable
gestures in the coming years," said Mr Ramakrishnan.
According to Sister
Chantal of the convent, Mr Ramakrishnan approached the convent two weeks
ago offering to organise a Christmas lunch for the children.
"As we are here at
the convent with the children we are in a good position to know what
they like and we made a list of things we needed and Mr Ramakrishnan
covered the expenses."
Apart from supplying
food products such as rice, meat, vegetables, snacks and cake, the
company also sponsored gifts namely toys, school bags and mattresses at
the sisters' request.
According to Mr
Ramakrishnan, the expenses amounted to R21,000 and this included
transportation cost.
After lunch, the
children and representatives of the company danced the afternoon away to
music during a party.
