A delegation of nine
students from Oman met with Youth Assembly members on Tuesday August 26,
in a follow-up to the weekend's youth festival.
Held at the National
Youth Centre, the meeting was aimed at encouraging dialogue between the
two youth groups, particularly to make comparisons between their
respective youth parliaments.
The exchange session
featured an open dialogue on topics such as the parliament's selection
of members, eligible age for participation, and operation of their
various youth councils.
On behalf of the
Seychelles National Youth Assembly, speaker Clifford Andre welcomed the
Omani students and thanked them for their participation. Speaker Andre
said the experience definitely broadened the Seychellois youth
parliament members' knowledge on how the Omani youth parliament
operates.
The delegation,
headed by education official Mohammed Al Shidhani, said that during
their one-week stay in the country, they had learned and experienced
many new things that will surely remain memorable souvenirs.
To express their
appreciation, Mr Al Shidhani presented the youth parliament with a gift
of an Omani Mandoos, a wooden box meant to keep valuables.
The box contains a
book and the name of the educational institute in Oman as a symbol of
how education of the youth must be valued.
Besides taking part
in the youth festival activities and meeting youth parliament members,
the Omani delegation also visited various sites on Mahe. The delegation
expressed fascination towards the beauty of the natural environment in
Seychelles, which they said is very different from their own.
