The Ministry of Health has received a donation of
walking aids and wheelchairs from a philanthropic group of professionals
and businessmen from Bel Ombre.
The Bel Ombre Hearts Group, as they call
themselves, donated the 25 wheelchairs, 25 crutches and 25 walking
frames to the ministry in a small ceremony held last week at the
Victoria Hospital.
Dave Pillay, a member of the group, made the
presentation to Dr Miodrag Todorovic, the director general of hospital
services, along with other health ministry officials.
On behalf of the Bel Ombre Hearts Group, Mr Pillay
said he was honoured to present the equipment to the ministry and added
that the group was planning to make more donations in the future.
On behalf of the patients and staff of the
hospital, Dr Todorovic said that the equipment would be of great use to
patients while they recover.
Dr Todorovic also called on other groups and
individuals to make similar donations.
Patricia Rene, director for physiotherapy in the
ministry, said that the donation had come at the right time, as they
were running out of stock since some patients did not return the
equipment after leaving the hospital.
Mrs Rene called on those who might have Ministry of
Health equipment in their possession to return them so that other
patients can follow their treatment.
Members of the Bel Ombre Hearts Group raise funds
for charitable causes and the less fortunate. The group recently
organised a Christmas party for the disabled of Bel Ombre and donated
beds for the disabled of the district.
