A group of
officials from Care – the association campaigning against drug and
alcohol abuse – left for Namibia over the weekend (September 27-28) to
participate in a ten-day exchange programme.
The group's
participation has been made possible thanks partly to a donation of 10
complementary airline tickets from Air Seychelles.
The group received
their tickets from the airline's corporate sales manager, Lucie Denousse,
in a brief ceremony held last week at the Air Seychelles head office in
Victoria.
“Air Seychelles is
proud to be associated with Care, in helping to educate students at a
school level and the community in general,” said Glenn Pillay, public
relations manager for Air Seychelles, during the handing over of the
tickets.
Robert Ahweng,
Care's director, thanked Air Seychelles for "this wonderful gesture of
sponsorship," which he said was very timely for the association.
The delegation
will include 10 counselors from various primary and secondary schools on
Mahe and Praslin, along with three Care officials.
The 13
participants are expected to meet with other drug action group members
of Namibia that adopt the world-wide programme, Teenagers Against Drug
Abuse, which is similar to Care's programme.
The long-awaited
exchange in Namibia is set to widen the knowledge of local officials on
how to run their respective care clubs more effectively.
Apart from
learning new techniques, they will also have the chance to visit various
institutions like schools and rehabilitation centers.
