Burglary and stealing
Court dismisses Mauritians' appeal against conviction

Three Mauritian nationals saw their appeal against conviction and sentence on two counts of burglary and stealing dismissed on Wednesday September 3, by Chief Justice V. Alleear in the Supreme Court.

Dheeray Ramhishore, Sydney Estazar and Mike Veerapen – all ex-employees of the Lemuria Resort on Praslin – had appealed to the Supreme Court against their one-year imprisonment on the burglary count and five years' imprisonment on the stealing count imposed on them by the Magistrates' Court.

The Supreme Court upheld their conviction and imposed a sentence of five years on the burglary count and five years on the stealing count. Both terms of imprisonment are to run concurrently.

The appellants were represented by Mauritian barrister Coomaravel Pyaneandee and Seychellois Karen Domingue.

Miss Caroline Hoareau appeared for the Republic.
