A
group of newly certified first aid practitioners have been recognised
after completing a basic first aid course.
Some 30 participants received certificates for the completion of a
three-day first aid course in a small ceremony held recently at the
Yacht Club.
The ceremony was attended by the president for the Red Cross Society of
Seychelles, Colette Servina.
The course, facilitated by the local Red Cross organisation, teaches
basic first aid practices, such as CPR and treatments for burns and
injuries.
The participants, who comprised both adults and youths, had to pass both
a written and practical exam in order to become certified.
Hugues Albert, spokesman for the Red Cross, said that the new first
aiders would now be able to help whenever there was an emergency that
required their skills.
The Red Cross generally holds the three-day courses, spanned across
three weekends, as often as possible, so long as there is enough demand
from registering participants, Mr Albert said.
Volunteers who wish to learn first aid for their own benefit can sit for
the course at no charge. Companies or organisations who are sending
participants on their behalf, however, are asked to pay a small fee. |
