Hindus mark temple anniversary with souvenir book

Minister Pool accepts the book's first copy from H.E. Mishra with Mrs Benstrong and Mr Pillay looking on

Members of the Hindu community gathered at the Sri Navasakthi Vinagayar Temple in Victoria on Saturday December 6 at night for the launching of a souvenir book commemorating 10 years of the Hindu Kovil Sangam in Seychelles.

In a short ceremony, Hindu Kovil Sangam chairman Ramakrishnan Pillay said that the Hindu community was glad to have a place in a society like Seychelles where different cultures and religions can co-exist peacefully.

Indian High Commissioner Malay Mishra, the Minister for Local Government, Sports and Culture, Sylvette Pool and Victoria mayor Florence Benstrong were on hand for the official souvenir release of the book

Mr Mishra, in full ceremonial garb, officially presented the book’s first copy to Minister Pool.

The bilingual publication, written in both English and Tamil, features articles and photos about the Hindu religion and the growth of the temple’s following during the past decade.

The book also includes messages from President France Albert Rene, government ministers and religious leaders.
