Fish body regrets eye soring sea

The Seychelles Fishing Authority (SFA) has complained about the dumping of waste oil and rubbish in the waters of the artisanal fishing port near their offices.

Assistant fishing port manager Jeff Lablache said Friday October 10 that SFA has already alerted both the Ministry of Environment and Seychelles Coast Guard and is hoping they will take action to stop culprits from polluting the sea any further.

"It looks quite unsightly and does not give a good picture of our otherwise very clean water," he told Nation, expressing the hope that those who are dumping the waste in the water will stop henceforth.

"Some people in fact catch fish at the very spot where people are polluting and the fish could become toxic," he said, pointing at floating oil and dumped empty take away lunch boxes among other floating waste.
