A local
family-oriented community organisation has launched a new calendar for
2004 under a “Family Values” theme.
The
calendars represent the second time the Association for the Promotion of
Solid Humane Families (APSHF), formed in 1995 and officially launched in
1999, has launched such a programme to promote family issues.
According
to the chairperson of APSHF, Edwina Adrienne, integrating certain values
like satisfaction, love, sincerity, peace and understanding in
Seychellois families will give rise to a more harmonious environment.
“This project has
been made possible with the help of sponsors such as Printec, the Drug
and Alcohol Council, that helps to make our charitable organisation a
success,” said Mrs Adrienne.
Functioning on a
voluntary basis, the association has about 300 members and operates
through family support groups in parishes with the aim of educating
families on how to enhance their family life.
The association also
offers counselling through their secretariat and counselling office in
Victoria.
However, in the near
future the APSHF plans to decentralise the services they offer and set
up counselling centres in various districts, namely Mont Fleuri, Anse
Aux Pins, Anse Royale and Baie Lazare.
The new centres are
now possible with the association training 19 of its members to be
counsellors via a three-year counselling course in collaboration with
Marriage Care in the UK.
Mrs Adrienne
appealed to the general public to support the work the association does
by buying the calendars, which are on sale at churches and other outlets
in town for merely R10.
