The Soroptimist
International Club has presented prizes to the winning schools who
participated in its Aids Awareness competition.
The presentation
ceremony took place Friday December 5 at the Ministry of Education and
Youth in front of Soroptimist club members and student representatives
from the winning schools.
Five schools
participated in the competition with posters, poems, slogans, essays and
audio and visual recordings.
Pointe Larue won
first prize for their showing in the competition, claiming a computer.
Praslin Secondary School received a television as second prize and
Plaisance Secondary School earned a DVD player for third prize. La Digue
won the consolation prize of R1,200.
The Soroptimist club
decided to launch the competition as part of its "Awareness, Advocacy
and Action" motto, with the competition aiming to create awareness of
the disease among youth.
In the competition,
students had to project their knowledge and concerns about Aids, how to
protect themselves against the disease and the plights of victims and
their relatives and friends.
