Former President
James R. Mancham has accepted an invitation of the World Association of
Non-Governmental Organisations (WANGO) to be a guest speaker at its
annual conference 2003.
The conference, to
be held under the theme “Towards an Ethical and Caring Global
Community”, is to take place in Bangkok, Thailand between September 25
and 28.
WANGO is an
international membership organization uniting NGOs worldwide in the
cause of advancing peace and global wellbeing.
Initiated in 2000
by a group of international NGOs and prominent visionaries, WANGO has
quickly become one of the premier international bodies for
non-governmental organizations that are committed to the ideal of
freedom, justice, equality, service, responsibility and respect for
nature.
Concerned with
universal values shared across the barriers of politics, culture, race
and ethnicity, the founding organizations and individuals envisioned an
organization that would enable NGOs to work in partnership across those
barriers, thereby weaving a seamless social fabric essential to
establishing a worldwide culture of peace.
Mr Mancham, who
will speak on the theme “The Important Role of NGOs in Global Politics,”
told Nation: “The aftermath of war should be out of the hands of
generals and not left in the hands of politicians either. After the
tragedy of war, there is a huge need for healing to take place… Here
lies the role of the NGOs. It is a role which should not be
underestimated and never undermined.” |
