There was jubilation at Port Glaud on Tuesday
September 16, as multi-lingual Peter George Reine turned 103.
About 50 people, including members of his family,
turned up for a party jointly hosted in his honour by the family and the
district's administration (DA).
Although his 70 year-old son, John Reine, had to
assist him prepare for the occasion, and the senior Reine now needs a
wheel chair, the Creole, English, French, Swahili and Kikuyu speaking
centenarian could still converse quite comfortably with journalists.
However, as the party approached its 8.00 p.m. end,
Mr Reine was visibly sleepy.
One of the key organisers of the party, Ms Annette
Port-Louis of the DA's office, said Reine must have been exhausted from
the preparations and activities of the party which began at 5.30 p.m.
with a mass at the parish church conducted by Father Lala of the
Anglican Church.
