Alleged arsonist remanded

A 24-year-old woman, arrested by police on suspicion of arson after a house fire at Pointe Larue claimed the life of a 10-year-old girl, was again remanded into police custody on Wednesday November 19.

The woman, Jane Labiche, appeared briefly at the Supreme Court on Wednesday morning where the court extended her remand period for an additional two weeks.

Her next court date is set for December 4, when she is expected to enter a plea after she is formally charged.

Police officials said that the woman was originally brought before the court on charges of murder, but depending on the course of the next two weeks, prosecutors could level a different charge against her.

The woman was detained by police on October 31, the same day the house caught fire.
