The exhibition
featured some of Mr Henri’s newest works, a number of which are also
scheduled for display in a joint September exhibition in Reunion with
three other artists.
Minister of Health
Patrick Pillay, who worked closely with Mr Henri during their time at
the culture and information ministries, delivered the opening address
during the exhibition’s vernissage before an audience of diplomats, art
lovers and other invitees.
Although many of the
paintings have already been sold, Mr Henri is keeping his work on
display at Coral Strand throughout this weekend as an additional
attraction for Regatta-goers.
The exhibition will
be open from 9.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. today and tomorrow.
Mr Henri, who
studied art and graphic design at the University of Sussex in the UK, is
considered one of Seychelles’ most esteemed professional artists.
He won second prize
in the first Indian Ocean Triennial of contemporary art in Mauritius
earlier this year, and took third place in the painting category at the
latest edition of the Seychelles Arts Festival.
In addition to this
weekend’s exhibition, his work can regularly be viewed at his studio at
Beau Vallon.
