Dark & Lovely, MG Labs get agent in Seychelles

A variety of hair and cosmetic products to go on sale as from Saturday

Softsheen Carson, one of the world's top distributors of reputed hair product – Dark & Lovely – and MG Laboratories, South Africa's leading cosmetic brand, have now got their own agent in Seychelles.

Launched recently, Seychellois-owned Walrus Holdings (Pty) Ltd has been contracted by Softsheen Carson and MG Laboratories to distribute Dark & Lovely products and MG range of cosmetics. These products are now available at the Walrus Hair and Beauty shop to be open  Saturday January 24on the first floor of the Sham Peng Tong Plaza in Victoria.

The company's Public Relations and Marketing officer, Stella Port-Louis told Business Nation that the purpose of opening the shop was not to compete with other similar businesses, but to provide a much needed service to the people.

For some time now, she said, consumers had been unable to get hold of high quality cosmetic products here, which had most of the time been restricted to duty free shops in limited stock. These same products were most of the time aout of the reach of the majority of the people.

Walrus Holdings, she said, hoped to make a difference by giving consumers access to a complete range of products, for instance the whole variety of Dark & Lovely products, ranging from hair treatment, hair care and after-care.

Despite other brands on the market like Wave Nouveau and Soft 'n' Free, Dark & Lovely, she said, was still popular to Seychellois ladies as it was back in the 90s.

However,  the inconsistency in the availability of hair care products on the market, forced people to switch from one product to another, a tendency not necessarily accepted by hairdressers.

The products, which include a variety of relaxers, treatment, hair colours, shampoo, hair spray, hairdress, among others, are sold individually and in kits for hairdressing salons at reasonable prices.

Softsheen Carson itself is based in the US, but has a subsidiary in South Africa.

The cosmetic items available at the shop under the name MG Labs, MG or Maria Garcia include a variety of perfumes for men and women, skin care products, such as moisturiser, facial products like cleanser, toner, mask, exfoliation, and others.

There are also products for people with problematic skin and for those seeking to maintain their youthful appearance. Some of these products sold in kits meant for health spas or beauty therapy centres.

Maria Garcia, who is the founder of MG Labs, Ms Port-Louis explained, has developed a series of self-named products that have joined world-class league cosmetic ranks and spread in the USA, Europe, Middle East, Africa and Australia.

She was also the official sponsor of cosmetics to the 1997 Miss World contest in Seychelles. Her products are also used by international airlines including SAA, KLM and the Arab Emirates.

Besides beauty and hair products, Walrus Holdings is due to open another shop to sell power tools.
