The Ministry of Environment has launched a new
national parks committee with the aim of better maintaining and
coordinating activities and developments in these reserves, which are
scattered all over Mahe and other islands.
The launching ceremony took place last week at the
Maison Queau De Quincy, Mont Fleuri.
According to the director of the Botanical Gardens,
Mr Didier Dogley, who is also the chairman of this committee, the new
committee will bring together all the organisations, be they
governmental or non-governmental, that have something to do with the
national parks in Seychelles to discuss and share ideas and concerns
relating to the national parks, especially before the implementation of
any project in these areas.
Noting that in the past the Ministry of Environment
had done different projects in the national parks, Mr Dogley said there
was a need now to bring together the different actors concerned to
contribute towards a programme to develop these reserves.
Besides
Mr Dogley the other members on the committee are Mr Michel Vielle
(Director of Forestry) who is the alternate chairman of the committee;
Mr Nirmal Jivan Shah (chief executive of Nature Seychelles); Mr Selby
Remie (director of Conservation); Mr Ron Gerlach (chairman of Nature
Protection Trust of Seychelles); Mr Lindsay Chong Seng (executive
director of Seychelles Island Foundation), Mrs Frauke Dogley (director
of Planning in the Ministry of Tourism); Mr Nigel Hoareau (senior Parks
Officer with Marine Park Authority) and Mrs Zoritsa Nibourette (in
charge of International Relations at the STMA).
