Media personnel enlightened on Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement

Saturday's workshop in progress

The Red Cross Society of Seychelles in collaboration with the International Committee of the Red Cross conducted a one-day workshop on Saturday November 22 for media personnel.

The workshop, held at the International Conference Centre, was officially opened by Colette Servina, president of the Red Cross Society of Seychelles.

It was aimed at sensitising media personnel from the Seychelles Broadcasting Corporation (SBC) radio and television, Seychelles Nation and Regar newspapers, about the various components of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. Those include its origin, structure, roles, functions and mandate.

Thomas Russell, the International Red Cross and Red Crescent (ICRC) regional delegate from Pretoria, South Africa, was one of the facilitators during the workshop.

Through his presentations, the participants learned more about the ICRC and the role of the media vis-à-vis reporting about humanitarian issues.

The participants described the workshop as of great benefit to them since they had the opportunity to learn more about the Red Cross Society.

Participants were presented with certificates by Mr Russell at the end of the workshop.
