Former Ragga Blastaz member Richard Marimba a.k.a Bujy who
has gone solo under the new name Jahrimba, is to launch a new album this
year.
Jahrimba started his music career at the age of twelve with
cover up songs of Shaba Ranks, Buju Banton, Yellow Man and in 1991 he
started writing and composing his own stuff.
He started recording with Ragga Blastaz in 1996 and made some
succesful hits together, for instance Ragga
Koket, Canmtorag and other
popular tunes which took their fans by storm.
But in October 2000 he decided to leave the group and make a
fresh start as a solo artist. From there he changed his name and style
of music.
He signed a contract with Jugling Records in England for
seven months were he worked side by side with producer Trevor T. Nine
other artists were under the same label as he was. There he produced his
new album called Jahrimba
which will be launched this year in France, Canada, the Caribbean and
Seychelles. The album comprises Creole and English songs in a variety of
genres, from hiphop to R&B and ragga. A couple of love songs will
also feature on the album.
“My songs are mostly based on how people live and what I
see around me and also serve as an educational medium,” he said.
Jahrimba also worked side by side with producer Basil
Bouchereau to produce the ever famous Ki
mon oule tande which he wrote in April this year.
“It all started when I heard an interview by Patrick Victor
on Paradise FM and I heard the song Pti
parol, so I added pti parol and
mon kontan ou and came up with this song,” he said.
The song has topped the Paradise FM Hot Forty for one month
now.
“I expected it to enter the charts and do well but not stay
for one whole month as number one,” he added.
He also joined other local artists on a new album called Divan
Sa Nouvo Lannen, a Christmas/New year compilation with a song
entitled Fer Lafet.
Jahrimba studied at the La Misere primary and Grand Anse Mahe
secondary schools, the National Youth Service (NYS) and spent two years
at the hotel school in the Kitchen & Pastry department. He is now
working at the Mahe Beach Hotel as a cook.
“My future plans are to settle down and have a family of my
own and I don’t want to become a millionaire but live a million
years,” he added.
So all Jahrimba fans watch out for the new album
due out this year.
