A colourful chariot
procession was organised on Sunday August 31, to mark the annual Hindu
religious festival, the Vinayagar Chaturthi or Ganesh Chaturthi.
The lighted chariot,
in which the deity Lord Ganesh sat, was drawn by devotees to the
accompaniment of Nathaswaram music from the Navasakthi Vinayagar Temple
on Quincy Street.
The procession,
which lasted nearly two hours, moved from Quincy Street up along
Revolution Avenue, Harrison Street and back to the temple down Lodge
Street.
Sweets and other
delicacies were distributed to the devotees during the procession.
The event,
considered to be one of the most joyous occasions of the year for
Hindus, is celebrated at all Hindu temples to mark the anniversary of
the birth of the deity Lord Vinayagar, also called Lord Ganesh. |
